Chakra Penticton - The chakras are areas of metaphysical or biophysical energy in the human body, this is according to Hindu custom. 7 central chakras are in the body, but many imagine that there are additionally lesser chakras located in the body system. Some modern believers have drawn parallels between the main organs of the endocrine system plus the chakra system.

The seven essential chakras are delineated by a series of lotus flowers ascending the spine to the crown of the head. Every chakra has a related colour, component and source of energy and every lotus has a particular number of petals. As the chakras advance from the bottom to the highest, they govern more and more spiritual functions. As an individual becomes more spiritually conscious, they become in touch with the upper chakras one by one. The bottom chakra connects with probably the most fundamental physical concerns, whilst the highest represents enlightenment.

At the foot of the spinal column is the Root Chakra. It's imagined that it stands for survival, primary instincts, and emotions of security. The root chakra is related to the component of earth and the colour red. It is visualized as a 4 petal lotus.

On the pelvis sits the Sacral Chakra. It is related to inventiveness, feelings and sexual energy. This chakra is related to the element water and the colour orange and is symbolized by a six petal lotus flower.

The Solar Plexus chakra is located in the area where the thorax and the stomach meet. It governs mental function, energy and digestion. The solar plexus chakra colour is yellow and its' component is fire. It's symbolized by a 10 petal lotus.

The Heart Chakra controls friendship and compassion and it's linked with the chest region incorporating the lungs. The heart chakra is said to the colour green and the element of air. Its lotus has twelve petals.

The Throat Chakra is said to self-expression, growth and interaction. It is symbolized by a sixteen petal lotus and is related to the component of sound or existence and the colour blue.

The Brow Chakra is also referred to as the third eye. It's typified by a 2 petal lotus and said to govern notion and intuition. Its colour is indigo and it's linked to the component of light or time.

The Crown Chakra is thought to be the connection to the divine or to signify the head of religious awareness. Represented as a violet or white lotus with a thousand petals, its associated element is space or thought.
