Autism Penticton

Autism Penticton - Autism is a neural development disorder which is characterized by impaired communication, social interaction and by restricted and repetitive behavior. These characteristics normally present before a child is 3 years old.

The affects of autism will impact how nerve cells and their synapses connect, organize and communicate their information in the brain. In is not fully understood how and why this occurs. There are 3 known disorders in the autism spectrum: Pervasive Developmental Disorder-Not Otherwise Specified, which is also known as PDD-NOS, and Asperger Syndrome. Asperger Syndrome lacks delays in language and cognitive development. PDD-NOS are diagnosed when the full set of criteria for autism or Asperger Syndrome are not met.

Genetics seem to be strongly associated with autism. The genetics of autism have proven to be rather complex and it is unclear whether certain cases of autism are explained by rare combinations of common genetic variants or by rare mutations in the genes. In various cases, autism is strongly linked with agents which lead to birth defects. There have been disagreements surrounding proposed environmental causes like pesticides and heavy metals. At one point there was concern about childhood vaccines however this hypotheses is biologically implausible and lacks convincing scientific evidence.

Statistics place the prevalence of autism at roughly 1 to 2 people for every 1000 people throughout the globe. In the United States, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that roughly 9 out of 1000 children are diagnosed with a form of autism. Since the 1980s the number of people diagnosed has dramatically increased. This could be partially because of the changes in diagnostic procedures. It is difficult to determine if the actual prevalence has increased.

Typically, parents begin to notice symptoms of autism within the first 2 years of their kid's life. Normally the indications progressively develop, but some kids initially develop more normally and next they regress. Early behavioural therapy or cognitive intervention could help autistic kids gain social skills, communication skills and self-care.

There have been some instances where children have recovered, although there is no known cure. Various individuals believe that changes to the food intake and the avoidances of certain environmental additives and chemicals will help to treat this particular condition. Most children with autism do not live independently when they reach adulthood, but some have become successful.

Autism has numerous characteristics which are very variable. This neuro-developmental disorder initially appears through childhood or infancy and typically follows a steady course without remission. Several symptoms appear about 6 months of age and after that become more established by age 2 or 3, and can continue into adulthood. Autism is characterized by a triad of indications including: restricted interests, communication impairments, impairments in social interaction, and repetitive behavior.
